Living documents: data, agent, view

We believe that living documents are a very powerful way to bring ideas to life. This manifesto outlines a vision for communication, collaboration and connection.

You should be able to talk to documents and manipulate them like playdoh.

You should be able to squeeze different views out of your content.

You should be able to harness world knowledge into every idea.

We already have a great container for these actions... a computer.

Coliving on a computer: one space, not separate services.

For decades we kept the database over here, the backend over there, and the frontend somewhere else. Then we relied on people and integration code to keep the whole arrangement coherent.

Coliving means data, agent, and view share one computer. The agent lives beside the files. The view is rendered from the same source of truth. Each can evolve with full context about the others.

We shall not be limited by forms. We shall not be limited by APIs.

What this looks like: start with the thing itself.

• Instead of a spreadsheet - Keep a CSV or database on a computer. Let Claude Code or Codex organize it and build the exact interface it needs.
• Instead of a CMS - Keep the writing as ordinary files. Let an agent edit them and publish a website directly from the same machine.
• Instead of another SaaS tool - Give the project its own computer, its own data, and a view shaped around the people using it.

A computer is the natural home for a living document.

Each document deserves an agent, and each agent deserves a full computer.

Another Computer is not just another computer. It is a set of tools, none of which are new, but combined into a new idea.

We are making computers plentiful enough to give one to every project, document, and idea.
